Council Tax Debt Engagement Pilot

Council Tax Debt Engagement Pilot

23rd February 2024

The Scottish Government has awarded Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) with funding to improve the client experience of council tax debt collection.

For the Scottish CAB network, the most common type of debt we see is council tax arrears. For example, the average council tax debt for a Scottish CAB client is over £3,420 – close to three times the average Council Tax bill (£1,238).

The Clacks CAB has been selected, alongside bureaux in Renfreshire and the Scottish Borders, to deliver a pilot project which seeks to identify the areas of the council tax debt collection process that could be improved. In the last few months, our team have been actively working alongside representatives from Clackmannanshire Council to achieve this.

Our Bureau has developed a specialist web page containing the relevant information regarding the council tax collection process.

If you are struggling to manage your council tax payments, please contact Clackmannanshire Council at 01259 226237 / 450000. You can also speak with a CAB adviser for debt and money support by contacting 01259 219404. We also offer a drop in service Monday to Friday 9:30-14:30.
