Council Tax: Check to Save

Council Tax: Check to Save

4th March 2020

Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) have launched their biggest campaign of the year so far, encouraging people to check if they are eligible to save on council tax and Clacks CAB is taking part.

Figures released from CAS reveal council tax debt is a soaring problem in Scotland, with clients within the Citizens Advice network owing almost £7million, with the average debt nearly three times the average bill, at £3,102.46. Last year, Citizens Advice network saved clients an average of £380 on their Council Tax bill.

The ‘Check To Save’ campaign will run for the next two weeks, to raise awareness of this issue, and entitlements to savings on Council Tax.

Clacks CAB will hold an information event on Friday 6th at Hawkhill Community Centre from 9:30 - 11:30 and another event on Friday 13th at Bowmar Community Centre from 09:30 - 11:30. Please come along to find out more.

Alternatively, you can come into our drop-in sessions to speak to one of our trained advisers or check if you are eligible for savings on your council tax bill at www.checkmycounciltax.scot.
